The promenades
The Tappeiner Trail
However, the most beautiful promenade of Merano is the Tappeiner trail (Tappeiner Weg), which crosses the southern flank of the Küchelberg.
It is lined by subtropical flora and offers a splendid view of the Old Town of Merano and the fertile Meraner Land, which is also called Burggrafenamt.
This promenade is called after its initiator, Franz Tappeiner, a former doctor at the health spa of Merano.

Winter Promenade and Summer Promenade
Leading down the river Passer you find the Winterpromenade with its Art Nouveau foyer, and the shadowy Summerpromenade which leads to the monument of the empress Sissi, who greatly enjoyed being in Merano.
Where Winter- and Summer Promenade meet, there is the stone footbridge (der Steinerne Steg), a roman arch bridge from the 16. century. From here, the sunny Gilfpromenade leads all the way up to the castle Zenoburg.
