Once you have discovered the racing season at the Maia Racecourse of Merano, you know that not only the thoroughbreds race but also the famous Haflinger ponies. The racecourse offers competitive sport with professional jockeys, from spring to autumn. The highlight is the Grand Prix of Merano, a steeplechase that takes place at the end of September. The Haflinger horses, on the other hand represent the more familiar and friendly side of the riding in Merano, and is one of the most popular attractions for adults and children: on Easter Monday the racing season opens with the traditional Haflinger horse race, where many young riders in traditional costumes can be seen. Also the traditional Maia October Fest is renowned for its Family friendly character.
