Smooth valley roads and winding mountain passes
The new panorama railway wagons of the Venosta railway lead from Merano through the Val Venosta to the quite distant village of Malles (about 60 km). There you can rent a bicycle at the station and cycle down the Val Adige cycle path (Etschtal-Radweg) that leads you back to Merano and is gently down hill all the way. If you become tired before arriving at Merano, just return the bicycle to another railway station along the way and take the train back in comfort. For racing cyclists there is the highly recommended challenge of the Timmelsjoch pass (2.509 metres ) and also the Passo Palade (1.512 meters)– both of which are stages of the Giro d’Italia.
